Tools and Strategies For Increasing Your Small Business Productivity

In order for anything to be successful, from a school student to a business of any size, then productivity needs to be at the heart of it all. If productivity isn’t happening, then it is hard for anything to really get achieved. All the will in the world won’t make something happen unless you get out there and start to be productive and make things happen. But alarmingly, productivity seems to be on the decline. In 2014, it was found that productivity was down around 1.8 percent. Which isn’t good news for anyone; small or large scale business. As a result, your small business needs to be looking at ways that it can improve its productivity. You want tools that will have a smaller room for error so that the business can grow and thrive. Here are some tools and things that small businesses should be considering to help their productivity.

Productivity

Simplify Procedures

If you look at some of the ways your business runs, I’m sure that there are some procedures that could be simplified quite easily. Not only will they save you time, but they will mean when you are working on them, you are working more productively and getting more done. Think about your IT structure, for example. A more simple method could be cloud enabled office from Fluid Networks, for instance. It would make things easier as it is all in one place, and can even be accessed elsewhere. So it would eliminate problems with computer breakages or theft, for example. So have a think about how your office runs and what could be simplified.

Eliminate Distractions

When you are working in a busy office environment, it can be hard to focus when there are people and distractions all over the place. So look at ways that you can cut out distractions. It could be as simple as putting your smartphone into airplane mode. Then you won’t be distracted by personal emails, messages, or social media notifications. It is also a good idea to work in timed blocks. Aim to be sat doing something for thirty minutes; then you can stop for a drink of water. Then back for another thirty minutes and so on. It can make it easier to focus when you work this way around.

Leave Everyday Life Behind at Work

It can be hard when the two mix together. But where possible, leave your ‘normal’ life behind when you’re at work. You don’t want to be thinking about booking a dentist appointment or dealing with upgrading your phone when you’re sat at work. Are you really going to be able to focus when you have other things on your mind? It isn’t very likely. So focus on work when you’re at work, and home when you’re at home. If things do pop into your mind, then write it down and save it for later. Having a to-do list is a good idea, and it means that you can save it for later and come back to it.
