Keeping Your Business & Its People Safe & Sound

In business, safety is everything. The most important aspect of this is that you need to ensure you are keeping your people as safe as possible at all times. If you don’t, it can quickly lead to a number of ongoing problems within your business, and that is the last thing you want. But knowing how to protect your business and its people from disaster is quite a tricky thing indeed. As it happens, there are a number of steps you can take in order to keep your business as safe and sound as possible, and its people too. Let’s have a look at some of the most important ones, so that you can feel properly prepared at all times, no matter what.

Plan Ahead

For a start, you need to be able to know how to plan ahead for whatever might occur. You never really know what is going to happen in your business, so you need to try and plan for the worst possible scenarios. To do that, of course, requires that you sit down and figure out what those scenarios might be. As long as you then develop a plan for each, you can be sure that everyone will feel much safer, and that your business will be more likely to continue to succeed and grow, even if the worst should happen at some point in the future.

Prepare & Protect

But it’s not enough just to plan out what you would do in such a situation – you also need to make sure you know how to carry out those steps. The how is often much more difficult to answer than the what, and that is particularly true in this situation. Above all, it is a matter of getting the paperwork in order as early as you can. Try to find decent workers comp, so that you can expect to pay out if something terrible occurs which affects your staff. Also be sure to insure your business against specific types of incident and threat, as this will make you feel much more prepared. You should also be sure to build a culture of trust, respect and forward-thinking, so that people can act in ways which will prevent incidents occurring, and respond to them properly when they do.

Take Feedback

One of the most valuable steps you can take is to ask your staff on a regular basis if they think you could be doing anything differently as a business. You might be surprised at how many good ideas your employees have, and taking their advice on board is often a good way to show that you are ;listening and that you really care about their well-being in the workplace. The feedback can be helpful for gradually improving the way your business does things, and it will also give you the opportunity to learn from the past. If mistakes do happen or a terrible incident occurs, at least use it to learn what you can do better in the future. A business which is always learning is one which is always growing too.

Virtual Biz: A Guide To Modern Sales Tactics

Over the past few years, the ecommerce sector has come a long way. Today, ecommerce is one of the most popular selling platforms for businesses, which means that there is now more competition than ever before. The majority of businesses that sell purely online are startups, aside from the likes of fashion retailing giants like ASOS. The competition when it comes to online selling is fierce, there’s no doubt about that, which is why understanding how to effectively utilize modern sales tactics is more vital than ever before. To ensure that you are well equipped to take advantage of modern sales tactics and make a success of your virtual business, below are some tips that are worth taking note of.

Your website isn’t enough

An incredible website that’s professionally designed, SEO optimized, and easy to use and navigate isn’t enough. There’s a common misconception that when it comes to making business sales a professionally designed website is enough, but actually, an ecommerce store is also vital. This can be attached to your website or separate from it – the store type you have doesn’t matter, all that matters is that you have a specialist ecommerce store for your brand. This could be a custom designed store, or it could be an Etsy or Prestashop store – all that matters is that your business has an online store attached to it.

Monetize mobile sales

Having an ecommerce store is all well and good, but what’s even more vital is monetizing it. Far too many business owners fail to monetize their ecommerce stores, making the mistake of presuming that once they are set up, they will monetize themselves. To earn from your online store and ensure that it’s as profitable as possible, take it mobile. 80% of the time internet users go online via their smartphones or tablets, which means that to be successful, businesses need to ensure that their ecommerce store is available in app form. The cost of creating an app can be high. However, the cost will depend on the type of ecommerce store your business uses and what features are required to be included in the design. Take Prestashop apps, for example, creating a mobile app for a Prestashop e-store can be a simple and cost-effective process. Whereas, building an app for a custom made ecommerce store can be a complex and more expensive process.

Focus on inbound marketing

Outbound marketing is old news; it’s nowhere near as successful as inbound marketing, which is why the majority of businesses choose to focus on this marketing method. Inbound marketing can be a highly effective method of increasing sales and growing your customer base. To increase your sales, using content marketing, social media posting, emails, and calls to action is key – these are all effective inbound marketing techniques that are also budget-friendly, which is what makes them so popular.

There you have it, a guide to modern sales tactics for virtual business sales success. To ensure that your ecommerce store is as profitable as possible, utilize the tips and ideas above.

Constructive Criticism: Building A Safe Place For Your Customers

The world is a dangerous place. And, of course, most people are aware of this. In day to day life, you put yourself at risk hundreds of times. Crossing the road could leave you hit by a car. Or, climbing a ladder could result in a painful fall. Unfortunately, a lot of the risks people face are unavoidable. You can’t find a place to hide and spend your life without any risks at all. As a business owner, this is especially true for you. In fact, in this position, it’s likely that you’ll be having to look after the safety of others, as well as yourself. To help you with this, this post will be going through some of the ways to take the customer facing risk out of your business.

Safe

(Image Link)

To start, it’s important to consider an area which a lot of businesses will ignore. The outside areas on your property are likely to be used by employees and customers alike. So, it’s critical that these places are safe. For example, a lot of car parks are also pedestrian walkways. In most cases, this will be absolutely fine. But, without the right protection, you’re putting yourself and others at unnecessary risk. Instead, you could consider having barrier wire installed to force cars away from where people are walking. When choosing something like this, you have to research the companies offering the best solutions. If you learn about Tendon Systems LLC or other companies offering the same services, you’ll have the best chance to protect your customers correctly. You have to do this for all of your outside areas, looking for loose floor tiles and even poisonous plants.

Once the outside of your business is safe, you should shift your focus to this inside. Within a shop, warehouse, or office, there are loads of different risks which need to be covered. Electronics can become faulty and dangerous. And, sharp edges on shelves could cause issues. Inside a company, this work has to be going on every day, too. Wet floors and other potential dangers have to be clearly marked to ensure people don’t get hurt. When someone is injured within your business, you will have to make things right unless you can prove that you put the effort in to remove the threat.

Of course, the threats inside your business could also come from other customers. Attacks on businesses are very rare. But, when they do happen, customers will often get caught in the madness. To avoid this sort of issue, and others like it, it could be worth investing in some security staff and equipment. CCTV gives you a great way to source evidence against criminals. And, it’s not too expensive to buy and install. Along with this, you should always have employees with the right qualifications to perform security. In most places, special licensing is required to even touch customers.

Hopefully, this will give you a good idea of what needs to be done to protect your customers from the threats inside your business. Of course, you can get rid of all of the risks. But, you can still work hard to show that you’ve put the time into it.

Budget Cuts: The Best Places To Spend Security Funds

Budget

Credit

Every business has to cut costs. And, whether you like it or not, your security needs take up a big chunk of your budget. Although no one likes to do it, bosses do dip into the funds for the benefit of the whole business. Instead of wondering when the next burglar is going to barge through the door, though, you can be proactive. Self-pity always feels like the way forward, but in this case, it’s time to get creative. After all, you have a major area of the business to look after and limited funds. With that in mind, here are the areas to focus on for maximum results. Hopefully, these tips will make up for the budget cuts.

IT Systems

The industry is a lot different than before and it thanks to technology. Due to advancements in tech, there are more open doors than ever before. The World Wide Web is just one example. However, with positives there are negatives, and more entries leave the door open for hackers. And, they will not hesitate to cause chaos no matter how small and insignificant the company appears. Thankfully, it is possible to keep them at bay with a team of high-quality IT experts. Okay, this method is a little bit more expensive due to the nature of their work. Still, it is very necessary to stop any cyber threats coming your way as the business relies on the internet. If the connection is lost, the company could lose a lot of money.

Security Guards

Tech isn’t the only way to keep a business safe. After all, there is more to safety than cyber attacks. It may sound odd, but thieves who target physical valuables still exist to this day. Yes, they did go out of fashion for awhile, yet they didn’t die out. Instead, they bided their time and returned with a vengeance. As a result, it isn’t savvy to concentrate on one area of the firm. If you want to be secure, you have to think about physical belongings as well as those that are online. The good news is that resources from warehouse security guards to perimeter guards are on hand to help. There are also Fire Watch Security guards who can offer countless benefits for you as a business owner by maintaining fire suppression equipment, help identifying fire hazards, secure a perimeter or the entire property from a possible fire outbreak, and keep a thorough record on daily events. As long as they check the area constantly, there is no need to worry about the firm’s physical safety.

Alarm System

It is tempting to invest in CCTV and remote video monitoring because it appears high tech. In all fairness, both are effective and efficient pieces of kit. The issue is the cost, which may be out of your budget. So, you need an alternative that is practical but that doesn’t break the bank. Well, look no farther than an alarm. Quite simply, an alarm system alerts anyone in the area to any suspicious and untoward behavior. It may be a little basic and crude, but it does the job and doesn’t cost a fortune. If you want to upgrade, you can connect it to a security firm that will respond every time there is a breach. Just don’t make any classic mistakes like promoting which system you use. Otherwise, it gives burglars more info to take it offline.

Risk Assessment

One mistake lots of businesses make is to jump in head first without any research. The reason this is an error is that all companies are different. As such, what works for one firm may not work for another. If you don’t know the intricacies of your business, the chances are high that your investment won’t pay off in the short or long-term. To avoid this, you need to sanction a risk assessment. In layman’s terms, it is a study by an unbiased source who points out the strong and weak points. They also offer solutions which may come in handy. The great thing about assessments is that it isn’t a waste of money. Plus, it adds an extra layer of security because it focuses on areas you didn’t know where weak.

Training

All of the above does not matter if the people in charge don’t have their finger on the pulse. In fact, it is a massive waste of money and resources. Everyone plays a part in security, so you need them to be on the ball at all times. The only way to get the best out of your employees is to invest in training courses. To begin with, a seminar on security should give them with additional tools to do their jobs properly. Let’s face it – every day is a school day even if you are an expert.

Also, regular sessions refresh people’s brains so that they don’t forget.

Honesty Is The Best Policy – How To Get It From Employees

A good boss is someone who is able to challenge and support all of their employees at the same time. By doing this, they can keep all of their workers motivated while continually achieving their best possible results.

Honesty

Pexels

There is only one way you can truly know how you should be supporting your employees – by asking for their opinions and thoughts on various matters. Once you know exactly what they all think, you can start to change things for the better.

There’s just one problem with this – workers can be very reluctant to tell their bosses and managers exactly how they feel. That is usually because they are worried they will get reprimanded for saying the wrong thing.

But it doesn’t have to be like that, though! Here are some sure-fire ways you can get honest opinions from all your employees.

Look For Nonverbal Signals

Sometimes we can tell what a person really thinks just by looking at their body language. When you are speaking to your team next, you should take a look around the whole room. What does everyone look like? If you see a lot of downcast eyes, tight mouths, or averted gazes, then it looks like your employees aren’t really feeling what you are saying. It could be time to switch up your strategy! Ideally, you want to talk to employees who meet your gaze and nod slightly as you talk. That shows you they are in agreement with you.

Get Rid Of The Suggestions Box

Do you have a suggestion box that is hardly ever used? If so, it’s time to get rid of it! There are much better ways to get your employees to tell you all their thoughts and feelings. You might like the idea of download a free employee engagement survey that you can send out to all your workers. If you get them to fill it in anonymously, there is more chance of them completing it.

Honesty

Think About Feedback Coaches

If you are someone who doesn’t take negative feedback or constructive criticism very well, you should consider getting some feedback coaches to take care of gathering all of your employees’ opinions. The coaches will speak to your employees and turn all of their feedback into data for you. This might also be beneficial to your workers, as they won’t feel like they are telling you all their honest opinions to their face.

Don’t Get Defensive

Even if you do get some very bad feedback from your staff, you should not get defensive. Just one display of negative and defensive behavior can put your workers off telling you their true thoughts for good. Even if you do hear something that you don’t like the sound off, keep a cool head and just take everything on the chin.

Once you do get your employee’s honest opinions, you will find that you can use it to your company’s advantage. You will know exactly how you can improve and how you can further motivate your workers!

Your Office Party: How To Treat Your Staff Well

Staff parties roll around more times a year than most of us – and our office budgets – like to admit. Whether you’re providing cake for someone who’s leaving, celebrating the end of the summer or downing champagne for Christmas, there are a few get togethers with your colleagues every year that are sometimes fun and sometimes not so much fun. If you’re involved in planning a party for your office, here are a few tips.

Remember, Too Many Cooks…

Although planning an entire party might be too much work for one person and a slightly unfair task, it also isn’t a good idea to get too many people involved. Even if it’s just an office party, you want a cohesive vision and if you have someone from accounts handing out flower garlands while someone from marketing is setting out snowman cupcakes, you’ll probably know that the dynamic just isn’t right. Gather a core team and stick to their expertise.

Party

Consider Everyone There

It’s important to remember everyone in the office and the different needs they have. For instance, if someone has dietary needs, remember to provide food that they can eat – you don’t want someone who can’t eat dairy or gluten to spend the whole evening picking breadcrumbs off pieces of chicken and pretending to be having a good time. If there’s someone else who has problems with childcare on certain days, make sure you throw the party on a day that they can attend.

Party

Provide Refreshments

There’s very little that will entice people to a party more than free food. Even if you’re having a team building day, you should provide a lunch that people can enjoy – and not just limp sandwiches either. Hire a catering company to put on a nice spread for everyone – they work hard and deserve to be treated well. Likewise, if you’re going to a bar and putting some company money behind the bar, don’t be too stingy – you want people to be able to have more than one drink! Likewise, don’t leave too much money there – you don’t want anyone to get too drunk…

Party

Provide Activities

Activities are generally pretty essential for office parties, whether that’s enjoying a sit down meal together, a sports day in summer, or Secret Santa at Christmas parties. At sports days you can present people with trophies from companies like FCB – and if you’ve ever seen The Office, you could have your own version of The Dundies and hand out awards! It’s probably best to create your own titles though – ‘Hottest in the Office’ might cause a few problems…

Party

Don’t Force Fun

Finally, although you should provide some sort of entertainment, remember that you can’t force people to have fun in the way that you want them to. Games that are too organised will just make everyone feel a little uncomfortable – you want them to feel as though they can kick back and relax as they enjoy the company of their colleagues. Organised fun is great, but over organised fun will feel more like work than your time in the office usually does!

The central brand of a business is like the calling card, the irrevocable image of what a company stands for. It reflects the philosophy and character of you the owner and underpins everything you wish to achieve. Building a brand like Rome, it won’t be built in one day. It takes time and research to truly get a feel for what consumers want, what other businesses offer, and the mood in the market. A brand is the image of a company, or rather it markets the personality of something, such as a product or franchise. It’s an exciting process because if can get you noticed online as viral videos and product reviews are something that individuals on social media have made a genre out of. There are specific traits of a good company that will market the services of products it provides with a healthy branding scheme.

The digital product

Especially in the digital world, products need a varied outreach program as the competition is extremely intense. Therefore a brand that is friendly, approachable and has a compelling message, is much easier to market online. Of the products your company makes, you should focus on the one that is the most universal and adaptable. Consumers want a product or service that is versatile, something which they can access on their laptop, smartphone, tablet, and desktop. Whether it’s an ebook, software or a video game, clients want an in-depth look at what you have to offer. However, more they will be more inclined to be interested if you brand the products with the right attitude and willingness to address concerns they might have. This is somewhat of a mind reading exercise, but with the correct market research, you’ll find a consumer base that is looking for a niche product that does something unique.

Data

Gathering intelligence

Data collecting is a strategy which no business can live without. The process directly involves asking customers about their buying preferences, what they’re interested in, their personal information such as age, gender, location, etc. This masses amount of data you collect is information that should be stored like an encyclopedia, as any successful branding of a product will be owed to this information. You need the hardware for this challenge and a company like Colocation has the capacity that only large businesses possess. You’ll need dedicated servers that encrypt security measures, store the data privately and only give access to your business, and importantly has a large bandwidth to manage the increase in traffic and interaction.

Using the data

A brand is a business that has transcended the category in which it began in; such as an entity separate from an industry it originally entered. With the benefit of confidential data collection, any product your business makes can be branded to fit the majority of interested customers, ready to be marketed. With knowledge of preferences, opinions, and needs, the branding can be focused on designing and symbolizing differences that your product has compared to the market. Your brand is like a promise to your customers; it differentiates from a marketing strategy because it expresses the personality and connection with your business with the customer.

Traffic Jam: How To Increase Interest In Your Website

If you’ve recently set up a business or you’re diversifying your marketing strategy to include online techniques, you’ll soon realize the benefits of driving traffic to your website. Once you’ve got a fabulous website, you need to advertise it, put your name out there, and encourage as many people to take a look as possible. If you’re keen to increase interest in your website, you’ve come to the right place.

Traffic

Advertising your site

There’s no point in spending time and money creating a brilliant website if nobody can find it. This is where advertising comes in handy. There are so many different ways you can promote your site, from including the address on branded materials and merchandise to using techniques like search engine optimization. The first thing to do if you tend to prioritize traditional marketing techniques, such as flyers and print adverts is add the new site address. If you’re keen to divert more time to online marketing, it’s essential to link your website to any social media accounts you have. If you’re not up to speed with social media yet, it’s time to do some research and find out which platforms would be most effective for your business and the market you’re targeting.

Getting to grips with SEO

How often do you use search engines to find a local business or look for products? For many of us, it’s a default action these days. If you have a business, being at the top of the search results page can increase your chances of making money significantly. If you’re on page 5, you’re not going to get nearly as many hits as you would on page 1. To improve your ranking, you need to look into SEO methods like posting content that contains optimized search terms, adwords, and back links. Forum posts can also be really useful, as you can interact with users and people who have posted in the thread and drive traffic by offering solutions to problems. Once you’ve made the initial connection, you have scope to communicate with others that have posted in the same forum, and you can promote your website and facilitate interaction at the same time.

Understanding social media

If you see an advert for a local restaurant while you’re looking at your timeline, and you like the look of it, there’s every chance that you’ll want to find out more. If you’ve got social media accounts, you can use them to encourage people to take an interest in what you do. They can click on a link, check out your menus, and book a table without seconds of seeing that advert. Whether you’ve got a local business or a national chain, being sociable can pay dividends. If you’re not an expert in social media or SEO, it’s useful to consult an agency or work with freelancers with experience in this area to get your campaign off to a flying start.

If you have a business in the modern age, you should never underestimate the value of having an online presence. If you’re new to the game, it’s time to take some steps to increase traffic and put your website on the map.

Three Aspects Of Business You're Desperate To Get Help With

Let’s be honest; there are some aspects of business which few of us embrace. Our enterprises are our babies, and we would do anything for them. Within reason… When first starting out, you won’t be able to avoid some of the more unpleasant jobs. Your team will consist of you and yourself. As such, everything will fall on you. But, as things get off the ground, you should find yourself with a little extra cash. As such, you can pay someone else to do those jobs that just don’t suit you. Here are three hire options you might be desperate to hear about.

Cleaning

Help

We all deserve to enter a de-cluttered work environment each day. Mess and clutter are no good for productivity. When it was you and your laptop, cleanliness might have been far from your mind. But, you have a team now, and they have legal rights to work in a clean space. But, you didn’t sign up to be a cleaner, and who has time for that anyway? If it’s a conundrum you find yourself in, it’s time to consider professionals. There are many commercial cleaning companies which can take care of that nasty chore. How often they come around depends on how messy things get. As long as you put things in the bin when you’re done, once or twice a week should be enough. Or, if things get messy fast, you could have them clean for a few hours each day. Either way, it’ll be a job you don’t have to consider anymore!

Transportation

Help

Did you sign up to be a trucker when you started out? Probably not. Yet, this is the situation you’ll find yourself in when it comes time to transport large quantities of your product. Someone needs to do it, and you’re boss. But, long drives and navigating roads you don’t know may not be in your skill set. Plus, you would have to hire vehicles, and possibly upgrade your license. None of which is ideal. Instead, it might be looking into a company which offers secured land transport. Trained drivers will be able to do the job for you, and save you the journey. The best thing with a company like this is you pay per job. You aren’t tied into a contract, so you’ll only pay for what you need.

Repairs

Starting a business does not make you a computer whizz. Nor does it mean you’re the right person to fix the heater when it plays up. But, these are all jobs which will fall on you for the first few months, or maybe even years. When you have the expendable income you need, you can finally leave the job to the professionals. As with cleaning, how far you take this is up to you. You could call someone on a job to job basis, or hire someone to come in once a week. Depending on how large your company is, having a set repair person may end up saving you money.

The Latecomer's Guide To Catching Up On Online Marketing

The fact that you’ve realized the importance of online marketing is already a positive step. But when you’re late to the game, it can feel like you have no chance of catching up and taking advantage of all the visibility, community, and profit available. But online marketing is still going strong and there’s a lot of pie to go around. Here’s how you get your slice.

Do your research

It all begins by realizing just how many strands there are in creating a proper online presence. It goes beyond creating a website and even beyond getting on social media. There are many different ways to market online and not all will be relevant. What matters in choosing different methods is fitting two specific categories. With outbound marketing, you are looking to get your brand appearing in front of more people with a direct offer. With inbound marketing, you’re looking to build a presence that’s easier to find. One is short-term, the other is long. You need to hit it from both angles to maximize your chances of success.

Learn on your feet

You shouldn’t be sitting doing nothing while you’re learning more about the different methods involved to you, either. In inbound marketing, you might soon learn that search engine optimization is one of the best ways of getting online visibility. But rather than sitting and reading article after article, you could do better learning from professionals like an SEO consultant. Good outsourced services won’t just help you get the results you need right out the gate. The provide a very worthwhile opportunity to learn directly from the masters of the craft.

Stay up to date

You’re not free to go and just repeat the same processes over and over once you’re up to date, either. You have to stay relevant. Online, this means producing new content based on current trends and evolving your social space and your site to keep it looking current and fresh. But it also means being on the lookout for new social media channels and new mediums of marketing. Sometimes, it might involve taking a risk, but that’s better than playing it too safe and becoming irrelevant.

Leverage your way up

Your competitors might have more visibility, more followers, and a more established presence. But there are also those with a more established online world that can help you, too. For instance, there are bloggers, vloggers, and content creators with a much bigger online audience than you have that can help market your business to that audience through influencer marketing. There are also others in your industry and supporting industries that can help signal boost your messages through their own social media. Don’t just go directly to the customer, but take the roundabout route through the friends who can help you online.

You might be late to the game, but that doesn’t mean you’re too late. There are some forms of marketing that will always be effective or ineffective regardless of how new or established it is. On the other hand, once you get on the machine that is online marketing, you have to stay on. Keep up to date and keep relevant or risk not only falling into obscurity but making your business look out-of-date.

We all have different dreams of what we want to be when we grow up. Luckily we all have different aspirations of what we want to do, which means that fortunately we aren’t all scrambling for the same jobs. One job that appeals to a lot of young people, and adults alike, is truck driving. This job appeals to many people as it offers life on the open road and a relatively stress-free day to day work environment. If you prefer working as a truck driver, there are CDL Truck Driving Opportunities available that will suit your skills and experience. So for any of you considering becoming a truck driver, here is our list of what the job entails and how to crack into it.

First Things First

So of course the first thing that any potential truck driver is going to need is a driving license. However truck drivers need to have a special license to be able to be driving heavy vehicles that transport heavy goods around the country and sometimes across continents. Therefore you will want to check with your local driving association about the type of license you will need to get depending on the type of truck you think you will be driving.

Type of Employment

Many truck drivers work for one trucking company and transport goods for that company alone. In that case trucks will be assigned to you. However there are many truck driver that prefer to be self-employed in order to find variety in the types of companies that they work for and the types of good they are transporting and the types of locations they are delivering to. Anyone wanting to be a self-employed truck driver will need to find a truck and research the different varieties of jobs that are available to self-employed truck driver.

Becoming a Truck Driver

So now that you know what type of truck driver you want to be you are now in a better position to know the practical tests that you will need to do. All truck drivers will need to get a truck driving licence by doing a truck driving course, followed by a practical and theory test.

Truck driving courses come in a range of different options. There are intensive courses that can be completed within a month and there are also less intensive courses available for those that want to take their time or maybe need to train alongside another full time job.

The physical test is then followed by a theory test, which now also includes a hazard perception test. These all demand a substantial amount of study time, so anyone considering taking this test will need to make sure they have enough time to dedicate to a lot of practice and study.

The Job Itself

Truck driving obviously involves a lot of driving and a lot of time alone. For some people this sounds ideal, but it is not a job that suits everyone. The long hours of being alone can be difficult for some and driving for many hours at a time can be draining. That’s why, it is recommended that you keep a contact number of an Emergency Truck Road Service so that if an emergency or accident occurred a truck service will come to help you. Also, anyone considering becoming a truck driver, will certainly need to consider whether a job like this is well suited to their personality.
